» 120 short films over 1000 awards
Having started in Vilnius and Klaipėda in 1999, this year the International Short Film Festival Tinklai embraces Kaunas, Panevežys as well as Šiauliai.
The visitors are going to see 120 short films, including a great number of Oscar, César, Cannes, Berlin, Oberhausen, Rotterdam and other eminent festivals winners (all the short films have won a total of 1000 awards in various film events).
The Oscar winner from the USA, Visas And Virtues is set in Kaunas, Lithuania in 1940. It was an old wish of the director Chris Tashima to screen his film in Lithuania, however, he never had such an opportunity. His dream will finally come true in this years Tinklai as it has focused even two of its programmes Uncle Oscar Comes and Uncle Oscar Goes on the US Film and Art Academy Awards. They are featuring nine of the best short films, nominated for, or awarded with Oscars in the last 10 years.
Dazzle Short Film Label from Britain is going to present a snappy and startling programme Cherry Lipstick compiled of films by female filmmakers.
Europes first digital satellite TV channel Propeller TV broadcasting exclusively original programmes is bringing its own film selection.
The Basque Film Library, National Film Centre of Latvia, Estonian Film Fund, Andzej Wajda Master School of Film Directing and the Polish Film Institute are presenting the pearls of their young and experienced filmmakers.
The Anivversary Programme of The Basque Film Library is featuring seven Basque short films that have received a total of 230 awards.
The most interesting new Irish, British, German, Norwegian, Swedish, Finish films have been selected with the help of festivals old and new partners: Network Ireland Television, Dazzle Short Film Label, Norwegian and Swedish Film Institutes, Tampere and Hamburg Film Festivals.
Two Lithuanian film programmes are going to reveal the creative quests of our filmmakers.
Film lovers are invited to an open-air screenings of selected short films on September 2-5 in M. Žilinskas gallery square, by the VDU building in Laisvės Avenue and by the VDU main building.
Students of Vilnius as well as their guests will enjoy the open-air cinema in the yards of Vilnius university on September 3,-4.
On the 5th of September, nightbirds are invited to the all night screenings in the yard of The Teachers House in Vilnius.
Film Centre Skalvija is going to please late watchers too. They are invited to watch movies till dawn on September 6 and 12-13.
In the nine years of existence, the festival has screened over 1200 films and provided an opportunity for more than 100,000 viewers to meet and interact with directors, producers and film critics from 20 countries. In 2003 the festival entered the European Open Air Screenings Association and in 2005 became a member of the European Coordination of Film Festivals.
