ABOUT FESTIVAL

» VII International short film festival TINKLAI will take place 2004 September 3-25 in Klaipeda, Vente Cape, Trakai and Vilnius.

The festival was born as an initiative aimed to create a regular cultural event on the Lithuanian coast and in the Capital, and was meant to attract audiences of both cities and present them with a unique cinema feast.

In the course of five years, over 500 films were shown, over 20 000 viewers took the chance to meet and talk with the filmmakers, producers, film critics from 20 countries. In 2003, the festival joined the European Open Air Screenings Association. The area of the festival expanded from Klaipeda and Vente Cape to Vilnius and Trakai.

This year on the screen – latest short film programmes from Germany, Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Latvia, Estonia, Russia, Lithuania and France. More than hundred short films will be shown to the audience, some of them will be presented by festival guests from different countries. Special guest of the festival Peter Sempel (Germany) will present retrospective of his short films and feature-length “Jonas at the Ocean”.

The film programmes were compiled together with festival partners: National Film Center of Latvia, Estonian Film Foundation, Swedish, Norwegian and Danish Film Institutes, Film Polski-Promotion Agency, Hamburg Short Film Agency, VGIK (Russia), Cinecites (France).

Exclusive feature of this year festival – screenings in unconventional for this purpose places.

All the festival events in Klaipeda will take place in the premises of the former tobacco manufactory.

Open air screening among the gigantic nets at the Vente Cape ornithological station will continue to be a defining event of the festival.

Two special programmes will be shown in the Vilnius City Hall square.

The closing accord of the festival will take place in desolate cinema in Trakai, with the intention to found Jonas Mekas Film Center.
