Introductory words International short film festival
"Tinklai" was born as an initiative aimed to
create a regular cultural event on the Lithuanian coast
and in the Capital. The festival was meant to attract
audiences of both cities, despite their diverse tastes,
and present them with a unique cinema event. This year
"Tinklai" starts in the capital in an attempt
to connect Vilnius' and Klaipėda's spectators and establish
a creative link among the artists and cinephiles of
these distinct Lithuanian cities. Action among the nets
at Ventes Ragas, an ornithological station, will continue
to be a defining event in the festival, which unites
nature and cinema, coastal audience and guests from
other Lithuanian cities as well as abroad.
International short film festival "Tinklai" is
a fledging cinema event, which evolves in its structure,
image and attracts a growing crowd of fans. The festival,
which will take place for the third time this year,
emphasises variety of short film forms in the Baltic
region countries, thus, seeking to revive a short film
evolution in Lithuania and encourage its further integration
into European film space.
This year short feature, documentary and animation films
from eleven European countries are shown in "Tinklai"
festival. The third programme of "Tinklai" consists
not only of recent short films. Documentary classics
and special programs from different countries should
also draw attention to another important aspect of the
cinema - European cinema heritage, which vividly reflects
variety of film genres.
"Tinklai" provokes a dialogue among the directors
producing non-standard films, festivals that show their
films and audiences that come to appreciate them. That
is why this year there will be directors, international
film festival co-ordinators and cinema critics present
among the festival's guest. Their visit should encourage
new contacts among Lithuanian cinema people and those
from abroad.
